Obsidian
Kept at thresholds since the Stone Age as a guardian of doorways and edges.
Formed: lava quenched to glass at the surface. Mined: gathered in daylight, where it fell.
Selenite
Named for Selene, goddess of the moon; long placed at doors and windowsills to keep a room feeling clear.
Formed: gypsum crystals grown in shallow seas that dried in the sun. Mined: at the surface, in old lakebeds and caves near daylight.
Malachite
Long tied to protection; medieval mothers pinned it to cradles, and travelers carried it against misfortune.
Formed: rainwater meeting copper ore, painting the stone green ring by ring. Mined: in the weathered skin of copper country, within the first hundred meters.
Fluorite
Long called the genius stone, kept on desks and workbenches where focus matters.
Formed: grown in glowing colors from hot mineral water moving through rock seams. Mined: from veins in limestone country, shallow to a few hundred meters down.
Labradorite
The Inuit told of northern lights caught and held in stone.
Formed: feldspar cooled slowly in deep magma, flashing blue only at certain angles. Mined: on the Labrador coast and in Madagascar, at and near the surface.
Amethyst
The Greeks believed it kept the mind clear; long worn for calm and steady intuition.
Formed: quartz grown slowly inside gas hollows of ancient basalt, about 134 million years ago. Mined: shallow hillside tunnels in southern Brazil, close to daylight.
Citrine
Kept in the till by shopkeepers for generations; long called the merchant's stone.
Formed: most citrine begins as amethyst, gently ovened golden, and we label ours honestly. Mined: from the same Brazilian hollows as its purple sister.
